Tips Before Purchasing
1. Room and Lighting:
Is the tv going in a bright living room? Is it going in a bedroom where there
is mostly night time viewing? Plasma TV's have a glossy screen making glare
a large problem. LCD's typically have a matte finish screen helping with that
problem, however, they are much more susceptable to fingerprints from kids or
pets. Consider the light in your room, or plan for it by using a tilt or flush
mount to combat glare.
#2. Placement
Where do you plan on putting the tv? Is it above a fireplace or on a flat wall? How high would you like it? Where will you put your components? Where does the digital cable come in? Taking a look at these factors can affect which mount you choose, where your components will be located, and how long of cables you need to reach your tv (which are often underestimated, especially when using an articulating mount). Another common mistake is mounting too high. It is easier to watch when it is closer to your horizon line (commonly 3'-3.5' off the ground). However, in a bedroom, you do not want your feet blocking the bottom of the picture, so you would likely mount slightly higher.
#3. Size
Measure your room. If your tv is wider than your fireplace, it may look too large. In addition, some say you should take the distance you sit from the tv and divide it by 2.5. That will give you a size range. (Example, you sit 12 ft away divided by 2.5 gives 4.8 ft or 57", so 50"-60" would be a good range for you.) These numbers really mean nothing though. It is always preference, only limited by your budget or physical space allowed. Keep in mind, if you would like to mount in a corner or need an articulating mount, the extension on the mount can play a large factor on how far your tv is able to turn before it's edges physically hit the wall.
#4. Brand
So many choices, so many sizes. This one is often best left up to the retailers and your opinions formed on the showroom floor. A top of the line Vizio can be better than an average Sharp. Make your judgements based on physical facts (1080p? Refresh rate? 3d? LED?) and your preferences regarding quality, warranties, and PRICE. However, we have the fortune of coming into contact with all makes and models, so if you would like our feedback on quality and dollar value, we can offer our opinion at no charge. Hands down, we install more Samsung tv's than any other brand.
#5. Most Importantly, Installation Options
Many people go to large retailers like Costco, Frys or anywhere online and buy the whole package not realizing they charge a high premium for outsourced installation services (the lowest bidder). They also retain a deposit if you need to cancel or move your appointment.. AND they will leave you with a power cable outside the wall telling you to call an electrician next! Our prices take into consideration that we cut out the 3rd party and do all the work in-house. Our packages custom taylor to your needs, and customer service is our #1 priority. We pass savings on to you and want you to put a lot of value into our service. Our feedback is always great and we look forward to hearing the same from you!
